IMAGINATION LAB
Discover a world that doesn’t exist.
A half-day intensive in imagination. In person or online.
Through movement, sensory attention and guided imaginative practice, you’ll explore how the body can give weight, texture and physical reality to something imaginary.
You’ll discover how movement can generate emotion and imagery; and how to follow an imaginative impulse before the thinking mind decides where it should go.
As your imagination becomes more vivid and available, you’ll explore worlds of your own creation, discovering places, characters and possibilities you couldn’t possibly have planned in advance.
What you discover may be meaningful, beautiful, thrilling, ridiculous or completely inexplicable.
Developing the imagination can enrich everyday experience in several ways:
- Sensory presence. Become more attentive to the textures of everyday experience: what you see, hear, taste, smell and touch.
- Creative receptivity. Explore how ideas arise before they are consciously formulated, and become more open to unexpected possibilities.
- Intuition. Practise attending to bodily impressions and impulses before immediately analysing or judging them.
- Freedom to play. Experiment with unfamiliar experiences, responses and possibilities without needing to interpret or justify them.
Imagination doesn’t just create other worlds, it shapes how we experience this one.
WHAT TO EXPECT
You’ll move from simple physical and sensory practices into increasingly vivid imaginative work.
You’ll move your body, lie on the floor, meditate, and spend periods exploring sensations with your eyes closed. The work progresses gradually, so you’ll have time to become comfortable with each practice before going further.
This work is participatory and physically intensive, but you don’t need to be particularly fit or flexible.
It is sometimes emotionally powerful and often joyful. You remain in control of your participation throughout. There is no correct response. Openness to your own experience is all you’ll need.
Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely.
There is time allotted throughout the journey to prepare, experience, reflect and return.
